Knitting Sandwich

bunnies abound

Do you remember this absolutely adorable post that Melissa put up about the bunny I made for Lily when she was a wee one? 

I was totally surprised and honored to see that Lily is still enjoying her bunny after all these years and it totally made my month.  It also made me start thinking... why didn't I ever make a bunny for Sabrina?  Well this obviously needed to be fixed right away!

I remembered that purple was one of Sabrina's first color words so that decided the color

And I also know that Sabrina quite adorably often sports a purple tutu so I thought her bunny might need a tutu of her own as well

I have to admit that about a quarter of the way through, I remembered why it was that I haven't made a toy in 7 years- all the piecing and sewing are really not my cup of tea at all.  But teaching myself how to make a tutu was a pretty fun and delightful task and after receiving this picture

I felt like I was the person who got the present.  What a gift that smile is!

To wonky or not to wonky?

You may recall my Blankie dilema regarding my wonky squares.  I vacillated between working the squares into the design or using them as a seed for a whole new blanket. 

Melissa nudged me out of indecision with her sweet gift of the yarn that keeps on giving.  It was just what I needed to get knitting on the 9 replacement squares.  I am happy to report that I'm back on the blankie bandwagon!  I finally decided on a boarder yarn.

 

And am making progress on the log cabining.

I did have a ridiculous idea to use the wonky squares in a totally wonky version of blankie.  It would be the same size as straight laced blankie so I could sew them together and have a double thick blanket.  -Basically it was an idea so I wouldn't have to weave in all the ends.  Oh, I could call it my evil twin blankie, or maybe Jekyll and Hyde?  Apparently the wonky question has not been answered.

¡Viva la Revolución!

I love the Olympics.  From the pomp and circumstance of the opening ceremony to the novelty of seeing awesome sports like archery and fencing on tv.  Love it.

I've been toying with taking a more active role in the games by joining a team for the Ravelympics.  But what to knit?  Can I really commit?  I was on the fence. 

Yesterday this article about this letter from the General Counsel of the United States Olympic Committee pushed me right off that fence.

Basically the committee it protecting it's brand.  "RAVELYMPIC infringed upon the USOC’s intellectual property rights".  Okay, I get it.  Good suggestion to rename it the Ravelry Games. 

However this paragraph just stung:

"We believe using the name “Ravelympics” for a competition that involves an afghan marathon, scarf hockey and sweater triathlon, among others, tends to denigrate the true nature of the Olympic Games.  In a sense, it is disrespectful to our country’s finest athletes and fails to recognize or appreciate their hard work."

My only question now is what to knit?  I'll definitely watch the games but only wearing Melissa's Olympic protest hat.

on the move

my presence here over the next couple of months will probably be a little sparse, the main reason being that after five months on the market we have sold our house and will be moving to a new home!

even though our new place is only 8 blocks away from our current home there is still a lot of packing and organizing to do to get ready for the big move.  also in between all the packing we'll still be doing some summer traveling (we leave for omaha to visit my family tomorrow morning, then a meet up with melinda, and our anual trip to little pine lake for the 4th of july).  

i'll do my best to keep up with blog reading and posting on a regular basis but wanted you to know why i have been, and will probably continue to be, pretty sporadic with my online presence.

i'm still finding time for crafting though.  along with some knitting i've been putting in a fair amount of time on the counted cross stitch squirrels (pattern from dance needle on etsy).

okay, enough with the chatting - i've got boxes to pack!  :)

dishcloth parade!

it's been a while since i've been the grand marshall of a good old fashioned dishcloth parade.  so sit back and enjoy the parade of dishcloths.  i only wish i had a way to toss some tootise rolls or other parade candy at you.

first up is windows to my heart cloth by tammy carlton (rav link).

it is followed by squares dishcloth by love 2 knit (rav link) knit up in a lindsey-inspired colorway.

up next we have what has become one of my favorite newish-to-me patterns the aunt may by debbie andriulli (rav link).

here we have a lovely springtime number - the flowered gingham by sue schaefer (rav link).

this lovely scrubber is also a pattern by sue schaefer: the splish splash (rav link).

our next cloth is an oldie but a goodie, the harmonic mosaic by renee m (rav link).

we end our parade with a double showing of the double bump cloth by missy angus (rav link).

the rainbow ruffles - out and about

lily's new rainbow ruffles skirt (pattern: andalucia by deanne ramsay) has had its inaugural day out on the town!

i am so happy with how it turned out - the pattern was well written and easy to follow, with very lovely results.

it fits lily perfectly and i love how the ruffles give it just the right amount of femininity!

i like to think it's feminine yet functional - the skirt is also very good for climbing trees, running around like a crazed seven year-old, and jumping around like a monkey.

(but don't worry, lily has always worn undershorts with her skirts for those times when she feels the need to act like an actual monkey!)

but most importantly, lily loves the skirt.  which is good, since that's why i made it in the first place!

weekend at the ballet

this weekend was the mankato ballet company's spring performance.  we've been busy dancing (lily) and working backstage (me) so to distract you from the fact that i still haven't done a finished crochet skirt photoshoot, here are some pictures of lily dancing.  first at rehearsal, then in one of yesterday's performances.
