the stars finally aligned and lily had her new sweater on, when the sun was out, and we both had time to take some pictures. so without further ado, here is lily's birthday sweater, pattern: tiny dancer jr. by nichole montgomery (rav link).
one of my goals for this year is to make time for spinning. it seems that if left to my own devices i get into a spinning frenzy about once or twice a year and spin like a woman possessed, then the rest of the year i just ignore my spindle.
in an attempt to temper my obsessive tendencies, i wanted to make time each week/month (this isn't a formulated schedule at this point, more of a high-minded idea) to do a reasonable amount of spinning.
it's taken me until almost the end of march to implement my plan, but no sense in looking back, there's no time like the present, and all that.
Geting any knitting done these days feels next to impossible. So I felt especially relieved that I managed to finish this little vest and loafers during paternity leave.
Two lessons learned in the process:
1. The vest pattern was not written in Norweigan, but in Danish. Oops. When I adjusted Google translator accordingly, I had much more success.
2. Fluffy alpaca and three month old babies who have their hands constantly in their mouths don't really mix. Because while they feel especially scrumptious, I don't suppose an exclusively breast-fed diet is all that welcoming to handfulls of alpaca fiber.
At least I had plenty of time to knit whie I was pregnant. And it sure is fun now to see all those knits being appreciated!
Here's hoping I can actually get some new knits going (or in-progress knits completed) sometime soon! In the meantime, it sure is a luxury to have such a handsome little handknit model to hang out with!
the day of which i have been waiting for has arrived! lily is officially obsessed with knitting! it started last fall, when she wanted to knit a bib for her baby doll.
she then decided she needed to make a regular sized version for her baby cousin hattie. she started last fall and then stalled out until earlier this month when she got her knitting mojo back and finished it up.
i showed her how to purl and from then on there was no stopping her... she decided all her cousins needed lily-knit gifts, and got to work. in the past two weeks she has made, a bookmark for kaia:
a washcloth for henners:
and a mini basket for isaac (which was also her first foray into using dpn's):
it really is a knitting mama's dream come true! i'm so proud of my little knitter!
