i knew immediately that i wanted to do something similar over the bed in our guest/sewing room. it's taken over a year to begin coming to fruition (that's pretty much how i roll, in maybe 10 years my house will be *awesome*!!) but the room was painted earlier this week and now is ready for decorating!
in the past two days i've crocheted up 25 circles:
crocheting: i warned you this would be the summer of crochet afghans and i wasn't kidding! here's my latest, a neat ripple (pattern by lucy of attic24 (rav link)) worked up in my most favorite of all the acrylic yarns... vanna! it's making me endlessly happy!
the macken charm is a light and easy read due mainly to mr. hodgin's mastery of prose. this man can write, the words just roll off the page, you flow along his word choices as easily as floating down a river. the characters are all just enough over the top to make them lovable, and surprisingly believable. the enjoyment i'm finding in his writing style has made some other literary areas he struggles with (his less than subtle foreshadowing, and the over the top symbolism with the crows) more bearable. i'm not quite finished with the book, but have enjoyed it thus far and would definitely recommend it for a summer reading list!
now my friends, what are y'all reading and knitting?!?
surprise! i've been crocheting a zen circle baby blanket for bundles of joy!
you can roll your eyes at me... i'm predictable, i know.
after finishing up kaia's blanket i still had enough yarn to squeek out a zen circle for the sweet sweet babies at pine ridge. this is the third blanket i've made with this color combo (hattie's (rav link) and kaia's (rav link)) and i am still in love with it so i may have to take a trip to the store for more of the same...
this is another of my favorite zen circle blankets, using lucy of attic24's flat circle tutorial (rav link) and my go-to picot edging. like i said, i'm nothing if not predictable... but sometimes in the midst of the end of the school year whirlwind it extremely comforting to have something extremely predictable to turn to at the end of each day.
be forewarned, i've already cast on for another crochet afghan... this may just turn into the summer of the crochet afghan... i've got all kinds of plans!
yesterday was my friend blair's birthday. i think i touched on this as well last year, but it is so hard to think of things to craft for someone who is oozing with talent and can already make all the crafts! i have many talented friends but i somehow feel extra pressure when crafting for blair... first i have to think of something that she hasn't already made (which narrows things down considerably), and then execute it to the highest of standards... no pressure!
luckily blair and i share many of the same loves/obsessions, so i can usually just pick something i would want and make it for her...
case in point: we both love the poppins. as in, it's a jolly holiday with mary. as in, close your mouth please michael, we are not a codfish. as in, well begun is half-done. as in, mary poppins: practically perfect in every way.
because blair too is practically perfect in every way! and now she has the hoop to prove it!
