and i can't even blame lily, because she was at school

i made this today... all by myself.  yep, just me and my piles of glitter.

i saw this on pinterest a couple weeks ago and have been wanting to make one, but we've been out of white paint.  soooooo, i channeled my inner glitter-crazed 6 1/2 year old (which i wasn't even aware i had until today) and came up with this sparkly baby:

know what?  glittering is kind of fun.

butterfly in the sky

inspired by meg duerksen, via lisa leonard, lil and i sat down last night to do a little impromptu butterfly crafting.

then my camera battery died.... (which is okay, the tutorial on meg's blog is wonderful if you're interested) so we get to skip ahead to this morning and the finished product:

we didn't have a butterfly hole punch or a canvas to glue them on, so we just made do with what we had available to us.  and *of course* added some glitter.  

i love how it turned out - so much fun!

and now we have some new sparkly art hanging on the living room wall to replace the *ahem* christmas art i took down a couple weeks ago.

when i saw this post on lisa leonard's blog i knew it would be the perfect inspiration for lily's valentines this year.  today after school we set to work.

a little sprinkle of glitter and love.  perfection.

glitter around the world!

it's time again for the annual kids craft weekly holiday card swap!  this is the third year lily (and i) have participated (2009 and 2008) and it's something we really look forward to every year.  so without further ado, here's this year's cards.

i think lil did a fantastic job - i love how they turned out!

brett favre mania

the entirety of vikings nation is swept up in brett favre mania - will he retire or won't he?!?!

we've been swept up in a little brett favre mania of our own, although it's of a slightly different nature.

last week lily went to vikings' training camp with brian and some friends and she came home with this little vikings action figure, whom she decided to name brett favre.

what happened next?  well for those of you who know lily, the answer should be obvious: bring on the glitter!

here's brett favre sitting at his glitter table on his glitter patio while he grills up a burger and a brat on his giant tinfoil grill.

did you know brett favre sleeps all snuggled in a tinfoil and crepe paper bed?

brett favre also has two pools - a hot pool and a cold pool.

this is where brett favre's friends and family get to stay when they come to visit him.  they also have free reign to use the glitter-kayak in the front right-hand corner of the photo whenever they'd like.

and today we celebrated a wonderful occasion, brett favre's wedding.

brett favre was married today to pocahontas in a beautiful ceremony in our living room.  the service was performed by the wizard of oz. 

pocahontas was dressed in the traditional garb of her people and attended by her fellow disney princesses.

brett favre wore his vikings uniform and was attended by jimmy, luke skywalker, doll house brian, a rebel x-wing pilot, and lando calrissian.

in lieu of gifts the couple asks that you send glitter to lily, as she has now officially run out.  (on that note i best go clean all the glitter off my dining room table and floor... claire's coming to visit tomorrow and you all know how she feels about the glitter! )

glitter explosion!!

we've been busy over here making holiday cards for the kids craft weekly card exchange.  last year i was more hands-on with the ideas and helping.  but this year, with lily being older and more crafty i pretty much just let her handle it.

she saw a video clip on teletubbies where the children made cards by drawing with a white candle and then water painting over top.  so that was the first step.

then we came back the next day to sparkle them up (claire and anyone else with an aversion to glitter - you may want to look away now...).

she started with the ones that had christmas trees on them, asking me to trace them out with the glitter glue (she can't squeeze the bottles herself - they're actually crazy hard to squeeze!) and then she glued on ornaments and snowflakes.

but once we switched to the presents and ornaments she had found her groove and was in her element... pools of elmer's glue and piles of glitter everywhere.

at this point she was gleefully shouting, "glitter explosion!!" over and over.

here's the finished product, a lovely set of glittered up holiday cards.  perfect for spreading joy and christmas cheer (not to mention the stray fleck of glitter) all around the globe!

(i love how much this girl loves glitter!)
