i finally got around to sewing the elastic into the waistband of lily's skirt. i found this elastic in my grandma's sewing basket. i have no idea how old it is, but given that it cost 29 cents i'm guessing it's seen a few years.
but luckily, as i said in the title, the old gal's still got a little snap left in her - so into the waistband she went!

have i mentioned how much i love how fast crochet is? because i love how fast crochet is. odds are good i'll finish this little number up tonight!
in other flowerly news... my first iris of the season has bloomed:
these iris came with the house and i've always thought they were ugly. i just want them to be purple. but still, it's always exciting when they begin to bloom.
and in other random starwars-nerdiness-news i got a new awesome key chain from the copper fox on etsy to go with my old school princess leia key chain.
all-in-all a pretty good start to the week!

the one up side to our super mild winter has been an absolutely dreamy early arrival of springtime. when lily suggested we get out the quilt and head outside i was only too happy to oblige.
while lily lolled around reading i enjoyed the many greens and blues of early spring.
what? well of course i was knitting as well!
it's a new project, to counteract all the fiddliness of yesterday, an age of brass and steam kerchief (rav link) knit up with some amazing new zealand possum yarn gifted to me a few years back by the lovely louise at prairie mouse.
a perfect day, everyone is happy to be out of doors!

just staring at his sweet little face makes me feel better (it doesn't help me catch up with my computering... but it does make me feel better).

i recently treated myself to a set of new stitch markers when the lovely sarah opened up her own etsy shop: be a knitwit.

I grew tired brushing my hair they other day knew it was time for a change. After searching for a ruler, giving up and finally measuring my hair against a sheet of paper, I confirmed I had enough to donate to locks of love.
Since I always have my camera with me for the 366?52? picture project I had to take some pictures along the way.

But wait! I actually finished some knitting too! -Yet another nice change. This is a grandmother's favorite dishcloth with crocheted embellishments.
I can see why this pattern was grandmother's favorite. I think I'll be knitting lots more.

last night lily and i decided to have a backyard campout. first we set up the tent:
lily's only rule for the night: we had to use the window as the door.
then i built a campfire while lily climbed our apple tree:
everyone knows you can't build a fire without then knitting by it! here i am making progress on the shawl:

of course we roasted marshmallows (after brian ran to the store to buy us some - thank you brian!!)
played (safely, of course) with fire and shutter speed:
then climbed into our tent and went to sleep!
a super fun night, which i'm sure we'll be repeating.

i was walking down the hall and out of the corner of my eye i saw this, and it made me stop and do a double take.
how often do we look at things from a different angle?
especially during this season of rush and rush and buy and buy and do and do and go and go and did i mention RUSH!!!
use this as a moment to take a breath, tilt your perspective and come up for air. i know i did.

back in may kathy over at work in progress had a giveaway to celebrate her birthday. all we had to do for a chance to win some gorgeous green koigu was tell her a little something about ourselves. i went all out with my favorite piece of trivia from my past: i was a teenage mime.
yep, that's me there on the right. it's okay if you laugh, i'm used to it.
lucky for me my confession was not in vain as i won the giveaway and scored two skeins of gorgeous koigu in the colorway frog legs.
i knew i wanted it to become something scarfy/wrappy/shawly to wear around my neck, and last week when i needed a new easy go-to project i decided on the lacy baktus patern (rav link or pattern) by terhi montonen.
i am completely in love with this project and feel it was totally worth confessing my dorky high school activities in order to get my hands on the koigu! (thank you again kathy!)
