for christmas brian gave me a dutch oven.
isn't it pretty? and see how it matches the hotpad i inherited from my grandma? but i digress...
now a dutch oven is the sort of thing that when i see it being used on tv or on display at a store i say, "oooh i want one of those!" but when i actually get one, i have no idea what to do with it.
so..... i decided to make stew!
here's my stew "recipe"
bring 9 cups of water with your choice of flavoringto a boil. (i used to use bear creek's vegetable soup base, which i loved, but my cub foods quit carrying it. now i use something called, "better than bullion." you should feel free to use what ever you'd like.) my flavoring goes in at one tsp/cup of water, so i add in 3T flavors. you should follow the directions on your label.
take a pound of stew meat and trim off excess fat, and cut into bite-sized pieces.
add to the water and boil for an hour and a half.
while meat is boiling chop up the following:
one medium onion
one and a half sweet potatoes (or one super-large guy)
half a head of cauliflower
when you have 30 minutes left, add the onion.
when you have 20 minutes left, add the sweet potato and cauliflower.
now i also like to add pasta in, so read the directions on your choice of pasta's box and with that many minutes left, add in the pasta.
when the time is up! eat it!
this stew is tasty, but i think i need to do some research so that i can be using my dutch oven to it's fullest potential!
does anyone know of any good dutch oven recipes?
