it's hard for me to imagine that we've been blogging for a little while now and i haven't let the word blankie escape my lips (or keys, as the case may be) yet. (ravelry link) it's probably because the christmas knitting sweatshop has overtaken all my knitting time and poor blankie has gone quite neglected.
so now that the sweatshop is closed (sort of), allow me to introduce the wonderful heathen housewife shelly kang and her lovely sock blanket (heathen housewife- sock blanket)
this blanket is so charming and pattern so wonderful (mitered squares! yay!) that it's hard for it to not overtake your knitting life. or your apartment, for that matter. my home is filled with charming little bowls like this one:
i started the blankie at the end of august and will probably be working on it for years to come. but that's part of the 'faithful long-term companion' charm of the project. plus, opening your mailbox to find a package full of teeny yarn gumballs is just too good to be true.
so, 92 squares later, blankie is plugging along and growing slowly but surely.
i'm going to do it differently than shelly's original in that i'd like mine to end up as a giant square with straight edges as opposed to a giant rectangle with triangley edges. thus i'm not quite sure how many squares i'll ultimately need (and part of me doesn't even want to know). so, one drawback to blankie is the fact that i can never up my 5% complete status on ravelry. well, that and the other HUGE drawback (literally) which is the 'dark side' of blankie:
oh the ends! the ends that never end!
i'm so glad to finally have given blankie a formal introduction....
now could someone PLEASE help me think of a new name?
thanks!
cmv
oh blankie, how i love thee...
beautiful pictures too! i love all the baskets of yarn. and somehow you've even managed to make all those unruly loose ends look beautiful!
