there has been an explosion round these parts of seven year-old craftiness. lily is on fire with creativity and craftiness. she will disapear into her room and return an hour later having made herself a hand sewn pocket pal (pattern from sewing school by amie plumley).
or she'll head out to the backyard, tell me i can't peek until she calls, and then a short time later unveil an amazing fairy apmhitheater/doll tepee.
or when i tell her that i'm sorry but i don't think we have any spare three-ring binders laying around the house her reply is: "that's okay, i'll just make one!"
she's had a renewed interest in dressing herself and creating outfits and fancy hairdos for school, so when i read about the sketch journal what i wore today by gemma correll in molly makes i knew i had to splurge and get lily a copy.
(i find it a little hilarious that she listed me as her style icon of the day... i am not known for my fashion sense, but more for my "ability" to wear the same shirt three days in a row.) my favorite drawing of hers lately is this map inspired by monty python's holy grail:
complete with bridge of "deth", the holy hand grenade of antioch, the correct way to count to three, and a place to "diss mawt" at the end. oh i love this girl, her sense of humor, her craftiness, her amazing talents, and her kindness and generosity. i am one proud and lucky mama.

Beautiful, creative creations. Isn't it wonderful what they come up with. Always surprising. Never boring. And I'd go with the compliment.

You've a right to be proud of your beautiful girl! Creativity is a wonderful gift, and one that stays with you your whole life. Lily is fortunate to have a Mum who encourages her :)

the hand sewn pal is the best. have you and Lil seen Coraline? i thought it was a bit scary but i'm wimpy that way. anyway, the costumes for the dolls were all handknit and sewn. i think Lily would like it.
i'll be cleaning out my craft cupboard soon (or soonish. or whenever i get around to it.) i think i'll have to send a box of odds and ends of craft crap your way. no unicorn stickers, though. oh. and you get first pick out of the box :) you also would get free veto power for any crap you don't want floating around your house.
