joining up with ginny at small things for the weekly yarn along:
it's lily bookclub week again! yay! this month her choice was ramona and her mother by beverly cleary and my choice was oddfellow's orphanage by emily winfield martin of black apple fame.
the ramona books are some of my absolute favorites from my childhood and i don't think there are words for how happy it makes me to watch lily devouring them for the first time. it simply warms my heart.
i am a huge fan of ms. emily winfield martin's art, so when she announced she was publishing a children's book based on her oddfellow's orphanage series of paintings i immediately pre-ordered myself a copy. the book did not disappoint - it is charming and sweet and magical and absolutely perfect!
i have to share one more photo because it is so completely charming:
and knitting? well it's been a whirlwind couple of weeks but i've been managing to squeeze in some time to knit here and there. i'm working on my may square for my square-a-month blanket for bundles of joy. i should be able to finish it up today (although i've been saying that for the past three days! sometimes life just gets in the way of knitting!)
hope you're all having a wonderful week! what are you reading right now?
-melissa
RAMONA!! Sorry, that squeal just came out when I saw Lily was reading Beverly Cleary books! They were also some of my favorite books of my childhood (I also remember loving Harriet the Spy)...I remember 'BOING' (sp? pulling of the curls) so well!
I'm not reading at all except for the journal articles I have to...but have been building up my pile for field reading (I get way more reading done in the field than I do at home for some reason).

you didn't give us a big enough peek at your may square though! the edges look great but i want to see the middle!

Wow, what a lovely drawing! It would also be a great print for a children's room. As to my reading, I'm (re)reading a YA book that is set in the same universe as one of my favorite growing-up series. It's like visiting with an old friend

Ramona, Harriet the spy, Anastasia, I loved those girls!
So so many wonderful stories for lily to discover. It thrilled me to no end.
I agree with claire, we need to see more square.
I finished mockingjay last week and haven't started anything new yet.

We have dearly loved the Ramona series here, along with many many other Beverly Cleary greats.
Bush Boy is trying to read Les Trois Mousquetaires en francais, and also devouring any Transformer book/comic/novel he can find! I think he started Brian's Return, by Gary Paulson, last week. Garfield books are the current snack time reading.
I am reading Born on a Blue Day, and have just finished A Storm of Swords, Book 3 in the Game of Thrones series.

I don't know Oddfellow's Orphanage, I'll have to see if I can track down a copy here. My class last year enjoyed the Fudge series by Judy Blume.
